Club display game at Legionary 2017?

What do we want to do for Legionary this year? It's slightly later this year, Saturday May 13th.

At club last night, Dom suggested we do a 6x4" display game of Infinity, with my Antenociti Kickstarter stuff combined with his.

Sounds like a good idea. Should make for a very impressive table.

I just need to get gluing...

So, Habitat 3 is essentially complete (only missing the roof/floor lugs currently), and Habitat 1 is only waiting for the int/ext resin, as well as roof lugs. I am hoping to get the resin painted and fitted today after work, putting me at 2/9 habitats complete for Legionary.

Given the 10 weeks and 4 days until the show, I am reasonably confident that I should have everything nice and presentable in time :)

Once all the buildings are complete, I will be focusing on the vehicles I have (4 meerkat all-terrain vehicles, and a city-hopper flyer), assembly first, then painting so that they can at least be present on the table.

Excellent!

As part of my ongoing clear-up I've come across some more cars as well.

As I was falling asleep last night, the beginnings of a semi-narrative event/mission were coming together in my head. If I get a moment today, I will start trying to remember and write things down.

First Draft - The aim is to utilise as many aspects of the Forward Base Kickstarter terrain as possible.

Mission: Assault Forward Base

A reconnaissance flight over a rural region of Paradiso has uncovered a previously unknown forward base. Unfortunately the flyer was shot down and the pilot captured, held in the base that they had just discovered. The base is overseen by a HVT who keeps his residence on site. The mission is to recover the pilot whilst taking advantage of every opportunity to cause havoc against the entrenched force.

Size: 4-500pts (8-10SWC)
Table: 6x4

Deployments: Defender deploys within 12" of the centre line (playing longways). Attacker deploys within 12" of the edge of short sides to the table.

Infiltration: Infiltrating troops can deploy within the dead zone (2 x 12" zones between deployment zones) and requires a PH roll. Attacking troops failing the PH roll are placed in base to base with a table edge in their deployment zone. Defending troops failing the PH roll are placed inside a Habitat 1 (Hab 3 Base), 4 (Big L), Hab 8 (Recreation) that is completely within the Defenders deployment zone.

HVT: There is one HVT centrally placed within Habitat 3, atop Habitat 1.

Game end: Game ends the turn after a player.

Scoring:
Attacking player scores for achieving the below (Each objective can only be done once), Defending player scores for denying the below (checked at game end).

Theft of encryption codes (Command Centre/Tower) - 1 OP
Hijack of TAG (Workshop) - 1 OP
Recovery of wounded pilot (Science/Medical Centre) - 1 OP
Recover Weaponry (Armoury) - 1 OP
Disable Power Generator - 1 OP

5 Classified Objectives, each worth 1 OP.

Special Rules:

Target Acquired
Forward Observer attacks against the HVT ignore the rule against drawing line of sight through see-through perspex terrain.

Star Trek Doors
Due to the potential inability to remove doors from the Forward Base Habitats, doors automatically open to allow troops through without the use of a short skill. The doors are considered open and can have LoF drawn through them when a model is in base to base with the door or door frame (to allow cover to be claimed) - the troop is close enough to trigger the automatic opening sensors.

Landing Pad
Troops deploying by Airborne Deployment can land on Hab 7 (Tower) with +3PH.

Encryption Codes
An attacking trooper in the correct Habitat (Command Centre / Tower) and base to base with a console can extract the Opposing Force's Comms encryption key. This allows the Attacking player to immediately spend 1 Command Token for Strategic use of Command Tokens for the Defending player's next active turn.

Hijack TAG
At the start of the game, the Defending player places a faction appropriate inactive TAG (S7 or S8) in the Workshop, with a Disabled token. An attacking trooper in base to base with the TAG can take control of the TAG. This TAG only has 1 STR and *cannot* be repaired. When activated, remove the Disabled token. While active, this TAG *must* use the "Possessed" profile, and is considered permanently Isolated. This TAG generates 2 orders immediately, and 2 orders during the Order count step. This TAG does not count towards Retreat.

Specialist troops: WIP
Hacker or Engineer: WIP +3

Wounded Pilot
If the attacking force is Alien to the Defending force, place an unconscious TAG pilot (of the attacking player's choice) in the Science Centre. If the attacking force is not Alien to the Defending force, place an unconscious TAG pilot (of the attacking player's choice) in the Medical Centre. This trooper counts as friendly to both sides whilst Unconscious. An attacking trooper can attempt to revive the TAG Pilot. Once revived, this model permanently joins the Attacking force in a suitable combat group and is no longer "friendly" to the Defending force.
Non-Specialist troops: WIP -6
Specialist troops: WIP
Doctor or Paramedic: WIP +3

Weaponry
Place a Panoply in the Armoury. This Panoply is usable by both forces. *NOTE* if the Motorcycle result is rolled, please reroll.
Non-Specialist troops: WIP
Specialist troops: WIP and Roll twice on Booty table, choosing the result to keep.
Chain of Command: WIP +3 and Roll twice on Booty table, choosing the result to keep.

Power Generator
An attacking trooper can attempt to disable the power generator to turn off the Compound lighting briefly whilst backup power is brought online. This is represented by the whole table being affected by Low-Vis modifiers for 1 round. In addition to the below, this can be done by setting a D-Charge on the Power Generator console and detonating it.

Engineer: WIP +3

Without posting the whole mission text again:

Reduce the number of classifieds by 1 and add a new objective - experimental drugs.

The pilot is now always in the medical centre, regardless of species.

In the science centre, troopers can attempt to utilise the experimental drugs (think panoplys but for the body!)
non-specialists: damage 13 shock vs bts, then roll on a metachemistry chart
specialists: damage 13 shock vs bts, then roll twice and pick the result
doctors and paramedics: damage 7 shock vs bts, then roll twice and pick the result.

Both this and the Panoplys can be done by any number of troopers, but individual troops are only allowed to succeed once. For the sake of objective scoring, you only gain 1 OP on the first success.

Sounds like a great starting point, (could even work as a 2v2 if there's enough players), but I'd ask;

-> Would it be easier to increase the OPs for most of the mission objectives & reduce the # of classifieds to just 1 or 2?
-> "Game end: Game ends the turn after a player" - guess there's some missing text in that sentence!?
-> "A faction appropriate inactive TAG" - probably need to clarify what happens if Ariadna are the defenders, cos we only get Scarface as a TAG.
-> Is the unconscious TAG pilot meant to be the pilot of the "possessed" TAG? If not, does the TAG still include its own pilot?
-> Can you disable the power generator multiple times? Or just once?
-> Similarly, can you steal the Encryption Codes multiple times?
-> How would Inferior Infiltration work?

[Nice that non-specialists can still do stuff].

Latest version, answers a bunch of your queries. I hadn't considered Ariadna, but an inactive Scarface fits.

The number of Classifieds cards is to increase and randomise the chance for interacting with the HVT.

Game ending sentence is fixed and is the standard ending with Retreat from most missions.

The number of times objectives can be triggered has been addressed.

The TAG pilot is representative of the pilot who got shot down. No pilot for the Objective TAG - its meant to be one that has been undergoing repairs in the workshop.

James from Exmouth Imperials sent me a form to fill in, as per Tuesday's discussion I gave it the title 'Forward Base Assault'.

Also as discussed, this will probably be my Onyx v. Dom's Tohaa as that's the factions where we have lots of painted models. It's also a very fluffy match-up, and adds an extra bit of interest to have both sides trying to take a Human TAG.

Domo

What TAG should we put in the hangar? do we have (or have access to) a fully painted MERC TAG?

I think Richard has an Anaconda? Otherwise I have a Szalamandra.

Richard Deane

I have an anaconda and pilot you are welcome to borrow.
